ingredients
- 1 cup canned chopped tomatoes
- 2 ripe tomatoes, roughly chopped
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon salt-reduced soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 lime, squeezed
- 250 g beef mince
- salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 rashers of bacon
- 2 slices Cheddar cheese
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 2 burger buns, split
- 2 tablespoons Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise
- 1 cup mixed salad leaves
Preparation
-
For the homemade ketchup, place canned tomatoes, chopped fresh tomatoes, tomato paste, soy sauce and sugar in a small saucepan. Season to taste with pepper. Bring to the boil, stirring. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for a minute. Set aside and allow to cool.
-
In a bowl combine beef with salt and pepper, to taste. Form into 2 burger patties. Place the burger patties on a medium heat on a barbecue flat plate, or in a large non-stick frying-pan, and cook for eight to ten minutes, turning occasionally. After the final turn, place the cheese slices on the burgers and cook for a further minute until cheese has just melted.
-
Meanwhile barbecue, or pan fry, the bacon until crispy.
-
Assemble burgers by spreading a little of the mayonnaise on the bun bases. Top with lettuce, beef patties, onion, tomato, and bacon. Spread remaining mayonnaise over the top halves of the buns and place on top of burgers.
