Best Ever Cheese Toastie

  • 3 teaspoons Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise
  • 2 slices sourdough bread or Vienna bread or thickly sliced toast bread
  • 1 slice vintage cheddar cheese or tasty cheese


  1. Pre-heat a large heavy based non-stick frying pan, or cast iron skillet, over medium-high heat.

  2. Spread half of the Hellmann's® Real Mayonnaise on one slice of bread, then place Mayonnaise-side-down into hot pan. Top with cheese. Spread remaining bread with Mayonnaise and then place Mayonnaise-side-up on top of cheese. Cook for 2 minutes or until bread is golden brown on one side. Flip over and cook for a further 2 minutes or until the bread is crisp golden brown and cheese is melted.

  3. Cook the toastie in a sandwich press or jaffle maker following manufacturer’s directions.

  4. Cook it in an Air fryer: Preheat air fryer to 200°C. Place sandwich assembled as above into air fryer and air fry 3 minutes or until golden brown. Flip sandwich and cook another 2-3 minutes or until crispy, browned on both sides and cheese is melted.

  5. Try with other flavourful melting cheeses like Gouda, Swiss or Jarslberg cheese or even some sliced Brie or Camembert.

  6. For another delicious twist add in some of your favourite sliced deli meats like ham, turkey, salami or chorizo. You could also spread some Dijon or seeded mustard, or another of your favourite relishes, on the inside before topping with cheese.
